3rd Night of Horrors Event Horizon

Since I took a look at Alien and it's squeal I thought I keep going with this sci-fi horror theme and watch and review a personal favorite of mine Event Horizon. Released in 1997 and directed by Paul Anderson before he started doing horrible Resident Evil movies which actually now fit with what Capcom has started doing with the franchise, Event Horizon is about a search and rescue team in the year 2047 that is sent to a previously thought destroyed space craft know as the Event Horizon which was carrying a experimental device know as gravity drive that allows faster that light travel,  that has mysteriously return after seven years.

When the team arrives they find the ship`s crew gone say for the dead captain. While onboard their own ship the Lewis and Clark is damaged and they must repair it, during this time some of them suffers hallucinations such as the creator of the gravity drive Dr. Weir(played by Sam Neill) seeing his dead wife who committed suicide. One of the crew members Justin also tries to kill himself after being pulled into the gravity drive`s portal, though it is never stated where the Event Horizon has been for the last seven years it is heavily imply that the portal took it and it`s crew to Hell, this is something I like simply because it doesn`t flat out say it`s Hell. During the rest of the film it`s clear that where ever the Event Horizon has been it brought something back with it which later kills another crew member Peters by luring her to a random pit because all space ships need random pits that are deep enough to kill you if you fall. Weir also starts to crazy even ripping out his eyes, because dead wife, and plans to send the Event Horizon back to where it was the last seven years, and to insure the others can`t escape he blows up the Lewis and Clark killing the pilot Smith in the process. After blowing up the Lewis and Clark Weir kills another crew member T.J. but cutting out his guts and hanging him similar to how the killer in the Cell pleasured himself. Weir is later suck out into space but after a confrontation with the rest of the crew on bridge. Afterwards the captain Miller( played by Laurence Fishburne) tries to separate the two half of the Event Horizon but is attack by Weir who is now naked, covered in scars, and has his eyes back because Hell. In the end Miller succeeds in separating the ship but is left behind when portal opens. And in the end the survivors are rescued but it is imply that there still being effected by the presence in the ship.

Another reason why I wanted to talk about Event Horizon is because I see this movie as an underrated gem that has become a cult classic and I really don`t see why this movie is more well know. It has a good atmosphere, interesting plot, and is creepy, granted I think the movie would be better if the deleted footage(which Anderson regrets cutting) was in the film but this are things that can`t be help. Also though not wildly know this movie is an obvious inspiration for Dead Space, with the atmosphere and the imply Hell involvement, of course in Dead Space it was zombies but details.
This is WinterDeathPeach saying peace out.
