Tonight I'll look at another classic horror film The Omen about the birth of the antichrist. Now before I begin there's a minor thing I want address and that is about James Rolfe's Monster Madness, why has he never talked about this film, he talked about Leprechaun, LEPRECHAUN FOR CHRIST SAKE!!!*rants for about five minutes* I was here to talk about a movie wasn't I? Anyway if I was to rant about stupid things that internet reviewers do I be here for days. Let's begin.
Our movie begins with something I've neglected to talk about with these horror film and that's their theme. For example Carnosaur was stupid but it had such a great creepy theme as well Child's Play and The Omen has one the greatest theme in any movie(not just horror) and deserves to in any top ten list for greatest movie themes. Anywho, the film actually starts with our main character Robert Thorn whose a diplomat that quickly becomes an ambassador between the U.S. and Great Britain arriving at a hospital in Rome for the birth of his son only to discovered that he died within seconds of life. To save his wife the pain of losing their first child Robert agrees to adopt a child whose mother died during childbirth form the hospital's chapel and names the child Damien. A few years go by and the Thorn family are living in Great Britain living a perfect little life but strange things events start to happen starting Damien's nanny hanging herself at his birthday after she sees an ominous dog. Things continue to strange as an odd nanny comes to replace the dead bringing the ominous dog and when the Thorns try to go to the funeral of the old nanny Damien begins screaming uncontrollably.
While this is going on Robert is visited(or harassed)by a priest who tries to warn Robert about Damien. But of course like all people in movies who have knowledge on anything he doesn't clearly tell him because he knows his life is a movie and telling would ruin suspense for the viewer. However he does tell us that Robert's wife Katherine is pregnant and that the unborn child will be killed by Damien which it is in a very iconic scene, the priest himself is also killed during a thunderstorm when a lightningbolt cause a lightning rode on top of a church to impale him.
After beginning to suspect that something sinister is going on Robert is contacted by photographer Keith who shows that he has the camera form "Say Cheese and Die" because his pictures foreshadow the deaths of the nanny and priest, as well as his own, Keith also investigated into the life of the priest learning there maybe more to Damien than what Robert knows and the two head Rome to learn more. They head the hospital where Damien was born and adopted but the place has burned down along with all of it's files, however they are able to track down the priest who made the adoption in a remote monastery that leads the two to the cemetery where Damien mother is buried. At the cemetery they discover two graves on containing a jackal(Damien's mother) and the other containing Robert child which shows he was murder at birth which leads to two realizing that Damien is most likely the Antichrist, the two are than attack by a group of dogs in league with the ominous dog and the two barely escape. After this Robert tries to warn his wife about what is going on and get her out of the country but she is killed by the new nanny(whose a Satanist) by being thrown out of a window.
Robert and Keith head to Israel where they meet an archeologist named Bugenhagen who tells Robert, not Keith because he read the script and knows Keith will die in the next minutes how to kill Damien by using seven mystical daggers. After doubting all Robert refuses to do the deed by after Keith is killed in a freak accident he backs home where he discovers that Damien does in fact have a birth mark of 666 raveling he is the Antichrist. While trying to take Damien to a church to kill him Robert gets into a struggle with the nanny(named Baylock) and kills her which for some reason upsets the ominous dog. Robert heads to a church but chased by the police because of his road rage and is killed(despite the fact British police don't carry guns) before he killed Damien. And the movie ends with Robert and Katherine funeral and Damien smiling at the the camera making us think he knows hès the Antichrist but as the squeal proves that not the case.
So yeah that's The Omen a classic horror movie with a great plot, great acting, fantastic mood and atmosphere, and it's also nice how realist the movie is as well because it helps built suspense. I would argue this is an almost perfect horror film and should be view by all. This is WinterDeathPeach saying peace out.
