Legend Of Zelda Link Between Worlds Review: Remake Squeal You Decide

I know I said I was going to do a review of Link Between Worlds a couple of weeks ago but something came up, long story short super glue is not the best way to fix an analogue stick on a 3DS. Anyway now I've played a bit on hero mode and I have a 3DS XL, since this my first video game review the way I decide to this is first go over the story then the graphics than the audio and lastly the gamelpay. With that out of the way let's begin.

Before I start there one thing that's brother is me is people's attitude over the fact Link Between Worlds is a top down game, it's almost like people forgot that the DS games ever happened. I mean sure they were easy games but they were awesome games and I would recommend them to anyone with a DS or 3DS. Anyway on with the review.

Our game begins with our hero Link having a dream of Ganon which is all of two times the demon lord appears in this game, we than cut to Link oversleeping and being woken up by another character named Gulley. Okay seriously how many times has this happen now where the Link of a Zelda game is oversleeping and is awoken by another character it happen in Ocarina of Time, it happen in The Minish Cap, it happen in Skyward Sword and those are only the ones I can think of at the top my head I mean what would have happen if the first game did this too
Impa- I must hurry or els...oh no Moblins
Link-(at home)Zzzzzzzzz
Impa- Oh how I wish a courageous young boy would come along and help this poor old woman
Link-Zzzzz(snore)zzzzz
Than again maybe that's why Link ran into Impa in the first place he overslept and was in a hurry. Anyway it turns out Link is a blacksmith apprentice and Gulley is the blacksmith's son and the two head off. When they arrive too the blacksmith's workshop(and possibly home but there's no bed than again that's common in video games) the captain pf the guards is getting a new sword and shield but leaves without the sword, okay there's being forgetful and then there's being brain dead he came for a SWORD and shield how did he forget one, this isn't like going to the store buying bread and eggs but forgetting the hot sauce. Anywho after this bit of stupidity Link is task with delivering the sword which leads him to the sanctuary from Link to the Past and for some strange reason even the priest is still called a priest the sanctuary isn't called a church. Soon after arriving shit goes down as someone attacks and Links springs into action. Link than confronts our villain of the game Yuga who is turning people into paintings such as the dumbass captain  however he traps the priest daughter Seres into a portrait, Link tries to stop Yuga but he fails and is not out.

Later Link awakens inside his house where it's reavled that a guy in a purple bunny named Ravio brought him here after his encounter with Yuga, the priest did nothing because he was ah..cleaning the incompetent captain off his wall I don't what am I suppose to say the priest was an asshole. After explaining things to Ravio he suggest Link go and talk to Princess Zelda to tell her what happen but before he goes he gives Link a strange bracelet which we're told smells. Link heads to the castle and meets with Zelda who despite being the only one in power is still a princess and not a Queen. I mean what is up with this obsession with making young girls princess when they should be queens the only thing at the top of my head I can think that didn't do this was the Italian comic book W.I.T.C.H though I'm thinking of the tv show where at the end of the first season the character Elyon becomes a queen instead of a princess despite only being a teenager......wow that was a weird reference. Anyway after hearing Link's words she tells him to go see Sahasrahla who is not the character from Link to the Past having the same role and here's a though is he a descendent of the Seven Sages or the Seven Wise Men, oh well I guess that doesn't really matter. Before Link leaves Zelda gives a green pendent which is clearly not the Pendent of Courage and Link heads to meet Sahasrahla at Kakiriko Village where Link learns that Sahasrhla appertince a man named Osfala headed to Eastern Palace to investigate an evil aura, also he's descendent as well. Link arrives to help but Osfala is very big of himself because he has a Sand Rod "No you fool that's for puzzles not fighting" and rushing inside. Link catches up to him only to see him turned into a portrait like Seres by Yuga, Link fights Yuga and wins but Yuga transforms Link into a painting on the wall like the asinine captain, however thanks to Ravio bracelet Link is able to transform himself back and front from 3D animation to painting.

After leaving Eastern Palace Link returns to Hyrule Castle where he learns from Sahasrahla that a strange barrier is blocking and the only to break through is with the Master Sword and the only way he can get is with the Pendents of Courage, Power, and Wisdom. Unfortunate Zelda had the Pendent of Courage "Oh what a shame it's not like the pendent that Zelda gave Link was the Pendent of Courage OH WAIT!" And so Link heads off to the two dungeon where the pendents lie The House of Gales for Wisdom and Tower of Hera for Power. While Link is beginning his quest he runs into three other character Oren the Zora Queen who gives Link Zora Flippers, Rosso a miner who gives Link Power Gloves(no I won't make an obvious reference, beside this is Power Gloves plural not singular)    , and a young witch named Irene who will quick travel Link throughout the world.  Here's something weird the Power and Wisdom pendents swapped colours as back in Link to the Past Power was blue and Wisdom was red, I guess Nintendo got tried of everyone wondering why it wasn't that way to begin with. Anywho after getting all three pendents Link well see that Gulley, Oren,Rosso, and Irene are missing but no time for that it's off to the Master Sword which is blocked by(DuhDuhDuh) a annoying puzzle...yeah. After that tedium Link aquries the Master Sword and heads off to the castle.  Which follows is one of if not the best dungeon in the game where you must fight through soldiers to reach the top,  but to fair I love levels like this games where your only obstacle are human or human like soldiers for example in Wind Waker when you first get the Master Sword and you have to fight a large number of Moblins and Darknuts.  After all that good stuff Link will run into Yuga where he turns Zelda into a portrait as well as Impa off screen, Link confronts Yuga and defeats him again but he retreats and Link chases after him through a crack in the wall.

After traveling through the crack Link arrives in a strange castle which for some reason is a mirror image from Hyrule castle despite the rest of the world not being mirrored. Anywho Link runs into Yuga right when he uses the his captive portraits who are in fact the descendents of the Seven Sages to summon Ganon and then fuses with him. Link is easily overpowered by Yuga but is saved by the Hilda the princess of this world called Lorule, and again just like Zelda Hilda is the only one in power but she is not a Queen, if they said the King and or Queen just died and there was no official ceremony yet I would accept that not for Zelda though. Hilda holds back Yuga long enough for her to teleport Link out of the castle and tells him the only way to stop Yuga is to gather each of the Sages from dungeons in Lorue(not sure how Yuga decided which dungeons to send each dungeon in like the span of a few second but whatever)so that they can created the Triforce of Courage. So Link travels through Lorule to each of the dungeons to save the Sages; Gully in The Dark Palace, Impa in Turtle Rock, Osfala in Thieves Hideout,Rosso in Ice Ruins,Irene in Dessert Palace(which is in Hyrule), Seres in Skull Woods, and Oren in Swamp Palace, when the seven are gather they create the Triforce of Courage and now it's off to face off against Yuga for the third and final time.

Before I finish the story I gonna to give a spoiler warning for anyone that wants to be surprise by the story so here goes SPOILERSPOILERSPOILER!!!!!!!! With that outta the way lets continue, Link fights his way through Lorule Castle and confronts Yuga where it's reavled that Yuga was working for Hilda along so that she could get her hands on the Triforce. The reason for this is because like Hyrule Lorule had a war over their Trifore but unlike Hyrule they destroyed their Triforce, yes because why solve things diplomatically just blows things up. But that turn out to be the wrong decision and Lorule is dying, so Hilda sent Yuga to get the sages to summon Ganon to get the Triforce of Power, capture Zelda to get the Triforce of Wisdom because apparently god like powers can be past down, and have Link aquried the Trifroce of Courage from the sages because she couldn't do that herself when Yuga had all seven of them together. Things go bad for Hilda when Yuga turns on her, whether this is because of Yuga own ideals or because of Ganon's power is unclear but whatever. With help from Zelda Link seals Ganon away again and kills(I guess) Yuga but Hilda is not ready to give up but she is stop by Ravio who is reavled to from Loure who sought out Link to stop Hilda and Yuga so that Hyrule wouldn't suffer like Loure did. Hilda sides with Ravio and helps Link and Zelda return back to Hyrule where the two wish upon the Triforce so that Lorule's Triforce will be restored thus giving our game a happy ending. SPOILERSPOILERSPOILEROVER!!!!!

Now let's get to the graphics which I feel a little indifferent about. For the most part I really like the graphics which are very good someone of the best on the 3DS plus they are very bright and colourful, I have no opinion on the 3D because I`m cross eyed and can`t focus very good on 3D visual. My biggest problem with the graphics is the design because it doesn`t come off as very unique, almost everything thing in the game is taken straight from Link to the Past. Now there`s nothing wrong with a game series using various aspects from past games but I feel Link Between Worlds goes overboard, almost every enemy, boss, dungeon or even plot points are taken straight from Link to the Past. Because of this I feel like this game should have marketed as a remake or remix which really wouldn`t be that bad but it does take away the hope that we`ll get a 3D remake of Majora`s Mask because we`re suppose to wait for an original Zelda game on the 3DS first. Now before I finish with the graphics is Lorule, why you ask simple because it`s PURPLE.!!!PURPLE!!PURPLE!!PURPLE!! Encase it`s not obvious purple is my favorite colour though to be fair Lorule looks just like the Dark World. But despite this the graphics are very good but I felt they we`re disappointing.

I don`t much to say about  audio other than it being good but if I must say even though I like the music from the Zelda series it really isn`t one of my favorite when compare to other game series. So let`s move on.

Now for the most important part of any video game the gameplay. Now as I said above Link Between Worlds is a top game s which for the most part is primary on the handheld devices. Now I really shouldn`t really explain the a game Zelda series but here goes, you travel around the world enter dungeons collect a special in a dungeon collect the boss key to face off against the boss rinse and repeat till you get up to the final boss. Now the biggest change in this game compare to the rest of the series is that you get almost complete freedom right the beginning this due mostly to Ravio who rents you the items you`ll need in the world and dungeons, though you`ll still need items like the Power Gloves. Now of course there is a catch to the items which is if you die you lose them and have to rent them all over again, but you can cheat because this game doesn`t have a save anywhere feature like the other games instead it uses a save location like Skyward Sword, so if die you can quit and reload  your file which if you're like me you`ll do that alot in Hero Mode. Another minor problem I have is the length of the dungeon which I found to be too short, every dungeon took me anywhere between 30 to 45 mins to complete,it`s not that their that easy their just short and I don`t remember the dungeons in Link to the Past being short though that was a console game and this is a handheld game so make your own conclusion with that.

Even with my small complaints there really isn't anything wrong with this game it's another great Zelda game but I wanted more from like the console games not a remake of the a past game I mean we already got that from the first Zelda game on the 3DS. I still strongly recommend this to anyone with a 3DS though there other games that came out this year that I think are more worth your time like Fire Emblem Awakening or Pokemon X/Y. If i had to score this I give it an 8/10, anywho this is WinterDeathPeach saying peace out.
